You Can Go Home Again

20190419_073424

After 6 months away and completing a 9,600 mile journey across the country in my RV, I returned home. It feels good to get reacquainted with the things I take for granted (running water, not having to constantly be aware of electric or gas usage, huge areas of space to amble around in) and catch-up with family and friends. But leaving my motorhome tucked away in its storage space is a bit sad: it served me well, navigated like a dream and, well, it just seems like a waste having it not in continuing motion heading toward the next place, partaking of the next adventure.

So already making plans for a trip up to Vermont where I will participate in the rebuilding of fire pits and dwellings in Smugglers Notch as a part of the Historicorps project (I learned of the organization at a rally out in Arizona and knew instantly it would be something to explore). And perhaps a weekend here or there along the Atlantic ocean or State park. I think it will be good to keep the RV’s power and water circulation going at least a few times a month until I head out on my next cross-country journey this fall.

I took the picture at the top of this post at a railroad crossing in Utah because it has a very to-the-point directive: remember to stop and look at your surroundings, be aware of what’s heading your way (especially if it’s a speeding train:) and reflect on just how great it is to be where you are right now in the moment. There is so much to see and explore out there, and, funnily enough, there is also an amazing amount to see and explore right in your own backyard, like at the state park a mile from where I live here in Pennsylvania.
