I like to ponder a lot while I’m driving and it dawned on me that I use the word ‘journey’ as a cornerstone to my blogs. I already established being drawn to the world ‘cultivate’ as it brings with it a well spring of positivity and possibility. But what of my interpretation of the word journey….
Is it where you arrive after you plan on getting somewhere?
Is it an elevated form of a normal trip that evolves from one thing to another (i.e. ‘I started out on this trip a long time ago, but then realized that it’s a journey that I’m on)?
Does a journey align with a quest?
So the dictionary definition of journey is “to travel from one place to another, sometimes under difficult circumstances”. It can also mean the process of recovery, such as ‘the journey back to the field was a tough one for the injured athlete.” I believe my journey is one where I strive to live an examined life, to fill the time I have left with many journeys to places I still seek to visit, to live as positive and energetic life as I possibly can.
So buying an RV last year for me was not just the physical act of taking on the management of rather large piece of mechanical engineering and all that it entails, but also a metaphorical one to add and contribute to my overall journey. The RV provides the means by which I travel from place to place, and also represents a place where time will allow for the study of a new language, learning to play chess, for cooking new foods, for the reading of good books and so on. The journey is not merely driving the miles from point A to point B, but one where days and nights will be filled with good company of those I meet, and being able to see all the natural geography and urban landscapes I intersect with over the coming years.
My journey to date has led me to many different places and lives and people and experiences. Now I set course on a journey to better define and ultimately do those things, see those places that resonate with me. I want to use this blog to facilitate and capture my journey and, just as I derive knowledge and inspiration from others, hope that it might spurn the reader on to a cultivated journey of their own.
