After 2 weeks at 3 camp sites it is time to make headway back home to Bucks County PA. Day 1 – 270 miles, Day 2 – 290 miles and Day 3 – a ‘light’ day of 240 miles. I like to have the gas tank full and make it over the 150 mile mark before my first stop for lunch (the handy turkey, Coke zero and potato chips from my cooler bag), and then get to within 100 miles of my destination for a fuel stop.
Yesterday as I was about to get the rig on Rt. 95 down in Savannah I noticed the trailer brake system wasn’t illuminated. Since I don’t want to be going 60 plus mph and trying to stop without the trailer brakes, I immediately pulled over and went to re-secure the connection between the power cord and my truck. Now connected, brakes and rear view camera operational, I set out for North Carolina.
I constantly need to remind myself while driving that I’m not in my car anymore; I need to constantly maintain the speed limit as every other driver hurtles past me. But if I can find another RV or truck that is in my general speed range, then it’s good to draft/follow them up the road. As the saying goes, it’s not the destination it’s the journey and I am gradually realizing that on my RV journey.
